“Look Back” Anime Film From “Chainsaw Man” Creator to Premiere in the Philippines in August

The much-anticipated anime adaptation of “Look Back,” from acclaimed “Chainsaw Man” creator Tatsuki Fujimoto, is set to hit Philippine cinemas on August 28. The film features the voices of Yūmi Kawai (“Plan 75”) and Mizuki Yoshida (“Alice in Borderland”) as the lead characters Fujino and Kyomoto.

An Emotional Journey of Friendship

“Look Back” is a heartwarming and poignant film that explores the beauty of friendship. It follows the lives of two small-town girls, the confident Fujino and the introverted Kyomoto, who find common ground through their shared passion for drawing manga.

The coming-of-age story is brought to life by Studio Durian, founded by Kiyotaka Oshiyama, who also serves as the film’s director. Oshiyama’s impressive animation portfolio includes works like “The Boy and the Heron,” “Devilman Crybaby,” and “Flip Flappers.”

Critical Acclaim and Box Office Success

The original “Look Back” manga was a massive hit in Japan, garnering over 4 million reads within two days of its release. The film adaptation has also seen immense success, grossing more than 1 billion yen in less than 20 days in Japan.

The film has received rave reviews from critics. Screen Rant praised the film’s animation, direction, and writing, calling it an early contender for the best anime film of 2024. But Why Tho emphasized the emotional depth of “Look Back,” describing it as a tearjerker that captures the whimsy, melancholy, and romance of Fujimoto’s manga.
