‘Backstreet Rookie’ is a webtoon-based SBS’s Friday & Saturday drama starring Ji Chang Wook and Kim Yoo Jung that talks about the life of Choi Dae Hyun who handles a convenience store and Jung Saet Byeol, a student who loves to pick fights to protect her friends and sister Eun Byeol.

Backstreet Rookie Synopsis
Choi Dae Hyun first met a group of high school students who asked him to buy a pack of cigarettes in a nearby convenience store. Instead of giving them cigarettes, he gave them a lesson. However, Jung Saet Byeol even gave him a kiss.Three years passed, Jung Saet Byeol decided to apply as a part-timer in Choi Dae Hyun’s family-owned convenience store. The store is still on the verge of getting bankrupt but as Jung Saet Byeol started to work there, they became the number 1 in sales. Jung Saet Byeol is madly in love with Choi Dae Hyun but he has a girlfriend.
It gives us a middle-class and high-class love story
This is not a Cinderella-kind of love story. Choi Dae Hyun owns a franchise of a convenience store he used to work for. Even if he belongs to the middle-class, her girlfriend is just too rich to step-down on his level. As well, the unfortunate Jung Saet Byeol belongs in the lower-income class but she still wishes to win the heart of Choi Dae Hyun.
Jung Saet Byeol cares so much for her sister Eun Byeol
The sister Jung Saet Byeol and Jung Eun Byeol might often fight, bicker around or run away from each other but as the drama reaches its climax, they showed their sisterhood having Eun Byeol pursuing her dreams to give a good life to her unnie and Saet Byeol on the other hand works double-time to support the studies of her younger sister.
Aphrodite and Fire Volcano
Adding funny scenes on drama, the two characters Hwang Geum Bi and Han Dal Shik had numerous encounters within the convenience store and its vicinity. Plus, they are giving us a hint of ‘the more you hate, the more you love’ story that makes it interesting especially under their usernames ‘Aphrodite and Fire Volcano.’
The friendship between Saet Byeol, Hwang Geum Bi and Cha Eun Zo
The unbeatable friendship between Jung Saet Byeol, Hwang Geum Bi, and Cha Eun Zo has been evident since the first episode and as the episodes unfold, they gave us more crumbs on our favorite trio. Also, we love how Saet Byeol has a popular and handsome friend Kang Ji Wook who is super nice to her.
The noisy but loving family of Choi Dae Hyun
Kong Boon Hee, Choi Yong Pil, and Choi Da Soon’s characters are comically exaggerated but when it gets too serious matters about family, we surely enjoyed how they showered each other with care and love and at the same time, bickers around during lunch or dinner time. Yet, at the end of the day, they are still beside each other giving support.
