“The Tyrant”: Kim Seon Ho’s Journey into a World of Betrayal and Conspiracy

Kim Seon Ho, beloved for his charming and lighthearted roles, is venturing into uncharted territory with his portrayal of Director Choe in the upcoming Disney+ series “The Tyrant” that will premiere on August 14. This marks a significant departure from his usual characters, as Director Choe is depicted as a “lonely and isolated” figure.

Delving into a Different Character

In “The Tyrant,” Kim Seon Ho embraces a character that is far removed from the cheerful personas he is known for. The script’s intrigue, coupled with the opportunity to embody a complex and nuanced character like Director Choe, drew him to the project.

“In particular, Director Choe was the kind of role that I’ve dreamt of playing for a long time. Unlike the majority of the characters I’ve played, who were light-hearted and cheerful, Director Choe is lonely and isolated, so I really wanted to see if I could take on this challenge.”

Reuniting with Director Park Hoonjung

The series also marks a reunion between Kim Seon Ho and director Park Hoonjung, with whom he previously collaborated on “The Childe.” This partnership holds a special significance for Kim Seon Ho, who expresses deep respect and admiration for the director.

“I have immense respect for director Park. He has always been a great friend and he feels like an older brother to me. I was excited to work with him again because I was sure that I would learn a lot from him, especially in terms of portraying my character with nuance and clarity. As expected, I felt so happy and loved working on this series with him.”

Navigating Director Choe’s Emotional Landscape

Kim Seon Ho’s portrayal of Director Choe involves delving into the character’s inner world and carefully calibrating his emotional expression.

“I didn’t approach this character particularly differently from any of my other roles. But because it was a new type of character, I had many conversations with the director about the character’s inner world and his psyche.”

Striking the right balance between revealing and concealing emotions was crucial for maintaining the character’s authenticity and impact.

“In particular, I put a lot of thought into how much of his emotions he would outwardly express in a particular situation. Too much emotion would undermine the seriousness of the character and the scene, while too little would fail to convince the audience. It was part of the process of developing and shaping my character with more clarity.”

Unveiling the Character’s Motivation

Director Choe’s unwavering commitment to “The Tyrant Project” stems from his belief that it holds the key to his country’s advancement.

“The Tyrant Project is the ultimate goal, one that he considers worth risking his life for, all in the name of helping his country.”

“The Tyrant”

In “The Tyrant,” a group of rogue scientists within the South Korean government embarks on a clandestine mission to develop a virus with extraordinary potential. However, their plans are jeopardized when US agents uncover the project, triggering a high-stakes race to secure the virus and exploit its power for their own agendas.

Kim Seon Ho’s portrayal of Director Choe promises to be a captivating exploration of a complex and driven character, showcasing a new facet of his acting prowess. As “The Tyrant” unfolds, viewers can anticipate a thrilling narrative intertwined with Kim Seon Ho’s compelling performance.
