Mujigae: A New Light on KoPino Stories, Starring South Korean Actor Kim Jisoo and Award-Winning Actress Alexa Ilacad

The highly anticipated comeback film of UXS (United X Spaceshooter) is set to grace Philippine cinemas on October 9 with the release of Mujigae. Starring South Korean actor Kim Jisoo (now a GMA Sparkle artist), award-winning actress Alexa Ilacad, and child star Ryrie Sophia, the film also features a special participation of the Philippines’ Comedy Queen, Ruffa Mae Quinto.

Muijigae is atypical story that explores the deep bond between an aunt and her niece, while also shedding light on the experience of a child born into a mixed Korean-Filipino family. The film, shot 90% in Taal, Philippines, and 10% in Korea, promises a heartfelt narrative of family love.

At the grand media conference held on October 2, Alexa Ilacad, who plays the lead character Sunny, shared her excitement and nervousness about working with Kim Jisoo. She admitted to feeling intimidated at first due to his height but was very excited to work alongside the popular Korean actor. Their on-set chemistry was further highlighted by the duo’s playful Tiktok collaboration, signaling a budding friendship.

Kim Jisoo, who portrays Jisung in the film, expressed his gratitude for being part of Mujigae, acknowledging the challenge of finding roles in family dramas. He noted that the film aims to shed positive light on the often overlooked KoPino (Korean-Filipino) experience, and praised Alexa for her maturity and support during filming.

Other cast members, including Richard Guan, Ruffa Mae Quinto and director Randolph Longjas, commended Jisoo’s professionalism, while child star Ryrie Sophia impressed everyone, including Jisoo, with her ability to learn and speak Korean in just three weeks.

Ruffa Mae Quinto, who delighted the media with her humor, gave a spoiler that while her role is brief, it will have a lasting impact on the story. Quinto plays the role of Kapitana in the film.

Mujigae is an SM Cinema exclusive, and with its October 9 release, audiences are encouraged to secure their tickets to experience this cross-cultural family drama.
