Rising Duo Rabin Angeles and Angela Muji headlines hit Korean film adaptation “A Werewolf Boy”

The Filipino adaptation of the South Korean hit “A Werewolf Boy” is set to premiere in cinemas nationwide on January 14, 2026. Even before its release, lead stars Rabin Angeles and Angela Muji, known as RabGel, are already sparking conversations following the film’s media conference held in Quezon City on December 3.

Produced by VIVA Films and directed by Crisanto Aquino, the movie envisions the fantasy-romance within a distinctly Filipino context. Starting the conference, Angela Muji described 2025 as the most transformative year of her life.

“This 2025 is the biggest plot twist ng year ng buhay ko. When I heard the news that I will be starring in a film, hindi ako makapaniwala… lahat ng pinapagdasal ko noon, lahat ng pinapangarap ko noon na parang imposibleng makamit, biglang nasa harap ko,” she said.

The actress shared that entering the film industry felt unreal, especially after her unexpected lead role in “Seducing Drake Palma.” Despite no longer being part of her girl group, P-pop Generation, she admitted that her idol phase still lingers.

“I’m still singing kahit I’m no longer part of a girl group. Parang multo yung pagiging in a P-pop girl group,” she said.

During filming, Angela revealed that she faced pressure but found support from veteran actress Candy Pangilinan. “She was my biggest motivator… she will always hold my hand,” Angela said.

One of the most discussed moments during the conference was when the pair was asked about the source of their on-screen chemistry. “Siguro nandiyan na talaga… kasi bata pa ako, crush ko si Angela,” Rabin answered. He shared that he often saw her in the studio when they were younger, and the admiration never quite faded.

“Talagang may chemistry yung pagtingin ko sa kaniya. Crush ko siya eh,” he stated. Angela responded saying, “He’s very charming in all aspects. Hindi ako nahihirapang kiligin sa kaniya, it comes out naturally.”

Preparing for the role of a werewolf boy involved extensive workshops, which Rabin noted were important. “Sobrang kinakabahan kami bago mag-start… pero sobrang laki ng pasasalamat ko sa VIVA na ito yung binigay na project sa amin,” he said.

The physical transformation also proved demanding. “Sobrang tagal nilalagay yung prosthetics… apat hanggang limang beses ako nag-look test. Parang kakaibang tao ka kapag naka-suot,” Rabin shared.

Candy Pangilinan also praised RabGel’s professionalism, stating, “Nagulat po ako, they can act. Everybody knows their assignments.” Director Crisanto Aquino further emphasized that the adaptation showcases the beauty of the Philippine landscapes while retaining the emotional core of the original story.

“Gusto kong ipakita sa Filipino adaptation kung gaano kaganda ang Pilipinas. May ginawa yung dalawang ‘to na hindi ginawa sa original,” he hinted, referring to scenes performed by Rabin and Angela that weren’t included in the Korean version.

“A Werewolf Boy” blends fantasy and coming-of-age themes, now reshaped through a Filipino lens. The film opens in cinemas nationwide on January 14, 2026.
