KCC Philippines Launches 2026 Student Short Film Competition: “Kwentong Korea”

The Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in the Philippines is welcoming 2026 by opening doors for the next generation of Filipino directors. Following the success of its inaugural program, the KCC has officially announced the 2026 Student Short Film Competition, centered around the evocative theme “Kwentong Korea” (Korean Stories).

The competition serves as a creative bridge, challenging Filipino undergraduate and graduate students to interpret Korean culture, narratives, or personal experiences through a uniquely local lens. By blending Korean inspiration with Filipino perspectives, the KCC aims to deepen cultural ties and provide a platform for young talent to shine.

A Premiere Prize: The Busan International Film Festival

This year, the stakes are higher than ever. The grand prize-winning team will be flown to South Korea to attend the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in October 2026. As one of the most prestigious cinema events in Asia, BIFF offers student filmmakers an unparalleled opportunity to network with industry giants and witness global premieres.

Furthermore, the top three finalists will see their work on the big screen. Their films will be featured in the official lineup of the 2026 Korean Film Festival this August, giving them exposure to a massive audience of cinephiles and critics.
