Seven Reasons Why You Should Watch My Stand-In Starring UpPoom

Looking for a series that can make you cry and stir your emotions? If you’re tired of typical BL plots and genres with school uniforms and want a story about adults going through interesting issues, then My Stand-In is for you! This drama follows Ming, who initially loves Joe because he resembles his crush, Tong.

After Joe dies and his soul is transferred to a different body, Ming realizes he truly loves Joe. When they meet again, with Joe in a new body, Ming is determined to win him back.  Ming’s treatment of Joe, his efforts to win Joe back, and Joe’s character development will make you experience a wide range of emotions.

The Acting Skills

The acting in this series is outstanding, to the point that you will really empathize with the characters, even when they make mistakes. The scenes where Red Flag Ming changes into a pleading Ming, willing to lose everything for Joe, are especially satisfying. It’s striking to see the shift from Ming treating Joe like a nobody to valuing him as everything in his world.

‘Poom’ Phuripan Sapsangawat, who plays Joe, has received much acclaim for his acting skills. His eyes alone can express what the character is feeling. Poom also underwent extensive training in stunts to enhance his portrayal. On the other hand, ‘Up’ Poompat Iam-samang, who plays Ming, showcases intense acting skills. Known for his previous role as a cute and clueless character in Lovely Writer, he now portrays a possessive and problematic boyfriend in My Stand-In. Despite his soft facial features, his versatility shines through in portraying a more complex character.

The supporting actors also deliver strong performances. Each character has a well-developed backstory, making their words and actions deeply felt by the audience.

Unique Plot

No other BL series features a plot where a guy’s soul transfers to another guy’s body, as most BL series focuses on soul-switching between a man and a woman. From the first episode, you’ll be hooked by the series. Every scene is engaging and important to the story, keeping you on the edge of your seat. The cliffhangers at the end of each episode will keep you excited for the next one.

The series is not only about romantic relationships but also family issues. It explores themes such as a man without parents finding a new family and home, and how money and greed can destroy relationships.

The Director

Directed by Pepzi Banchorn Vorasataree, who also directed hit BL series like KinnPorsche and co-directed Dark Blue Kiss, Bad Buddy, and other series, this show benefits from her expertise. Her direction reflects the series’ quality.

Up Poompat and Poom Phuripan’s perfect chemistry

Ever wondered how a cute, lovely-looking guy pairs with a very masculine man? Look no further than UpPoom! The way they executed the scenes from the novel to life didn’t disappoint. After watching this series, you’ll likely add UpPoom to your list of favorite ships. There’s no doubt that they even won the award for “Audience’s Favorite Couple” at the Thailand Digital Awards 2024!

The Cinematography

The cinematography and setting are a chef’s kiss. The color palette of each scene changes to match the mood, effectively triggering the desired emotions through excellent cinematography and editing skills.

The Setting

The settings are well prepared and researched, with the production team even making adjustments when their filming location experienced flooding.

Especially notable is their choice of settings. The decision where to film Joe’s house was one of the best they could have made. The house itself evokes a sense of loneliness and pain, and they masterfully transformed it from a place of solitude into one filled with cherished memories.

The Script

Up and Poom’s delivery of their lines is top-notch. Each line they deliver will rip your heart, teaching us about change, the unavoidable fact that things will never be the same again, and the value of cherishing those we love while they are still alive. Their throwing of lines at each other not only points out the characters’ problems but also gives lessons about love and grief. Whether they are sharing heartbreaking moments or lovely moments, their words will bring you to tears and make you reflect on your own relationships.
