South Korea-based all Filipino global pop group HORI7ON has once again captured hearts with the release of their second single, “SUMAYAW SUMUNOD,” a vibrant reimagining of a beloved Filipino classic. The track, released on August 13th, has already garnered significant attention, marking another exciting milestone in HORI7ON’s roaring career.
“SUMAYAW SUMUNOD,” originally performed by the iconic Filipino boy band The Boyfriends in 1978, has been given a fresh lease of life by HORI7ON. The group, composed of Vinci, Kim, Kyler, Reyster, Winston, Jeromy, and Marcus, infuse the track with youthful energy, showcasing their evolving vocal and performance prowess.
During the media conference, their leader VINCI shared that they made the dance choreography easier so that people of all ages can follow.
“It’s like a puzzle piece for us because we’ve never had an upbeat OPM live song. We had “Salamat” and “Mama” which are ballad so when we want to show the Filipino joy and warm energy that Filipinos naturally have, we don’t have that song yet. And with this remix of “Sumayaw Sumunod”, I think this encapsulates that type of energy na talagang mapapasayaw and they can really understand how Filipinos can be very warm, and very jolly, and happy in general.” VINCI said.
This latest release follows the success of their single, “LUCKY,” and their debut song “SIX7EEN”. With “SUMAYAW SUMUNOD,” the group continues to explore their musical versatility, which aims to resonate with audiences of all ages.
“It’s really a nice milestone for us. Something really special is that I was able to be involved in writing the song… It has been my dream to write lyrics for our song… I also had Kuya REYSTER by my side as well when writing the rap parts.” Marcus thanked his agency MLD Entertainment for giving him the freedom to work on the song.
“Super enjoy ako sa comeback namin na’to.” REYSTER added.
The reimagined “SUMAYAW SUMUNOD” strikes a delicate balance between nostalgia and innovation while still paying homage to the original. The group also revealed that they have three versions of the song in English, Korean and Filipino.
As HORI7ON continues to make waves with “SUMAYAW SUMUNOD,” it’s clear that there are bigger horizons waiting for them. Watch the music video here:
