South Korean indie rock band SE SO NEON is staging their live music in Manila for the first time as they bring their new wave of sound from Korean rock to alternative folk songs.
Known for being the “new face of Korean indie rock” SE SO NEON won the “Rookie of the Year” award at the Korean Music Awards in 2018. Currently, the band is composed of two members Hwang So Yoon, the lead singer and guitarist and his equally talented drummer Park Hyun Jin.
SE SO NEON released two EPs including “Summer Plumage (여름깃)” in 2017 and “Nonadaptation (비적응)” in 2020 and seven singles from 2017 to 2021. Before they arrive in Manila for their one-night-only event, here are some of their songs that you must add on your list:
Long Dream (긴 꿈) – 2017
A long dream is the debut song of Se So Neon from their first EP “Summer Plummage”. The song will remind you of the days when you started dreaming of the things you wish to become in the future with the person you want to be with. The MV also features an eye-catching fun animation.
“The Wave” (파도) – 2017
“The Wave” might have a minimal lyrics with only a few lines but the beat of their music and its lyrics paved its way to becoming the “Best Rock Song” at the 2018 Korean Music Awards.
“Go Back” (집에) – 2019
A music video that gives a sensuous feel and out-of-the-box ideas, “Go Back” gives an upbeat melody and rhythm and will surely leave you LSS with the line “If I go back, where should I go back?”
“Cat (Digging Club Seoul Version)” 2019
Meow! SE SO NEON brings a modern take on old classic Korean pop songs through the “Digging Club Seoul” series where classic songs are remake and revibe through rock bands.
“Nan Chun” (난춘) – 2020
‘Nanchun (亂春)’ is a song that literally means “spring”. The song contains paradox of spring where your feelings are contradicting with your thoughts. SE SO NEON takes this as the “song of our generation” and a narration of a spring that gives off a mix feeling.
“Jayu” (자유) – 2021
“On this day, I feel free.”
A personal favorite from this list, “Jayu” which translate to ‘freedom’ symbolizes the freedom from the past ‘burns’ and nightmares we had. The music video also highlighted we can recover from the the ‘scars’ and traumas we experienced in the past and that’s when we can finally experience “freedom.”
“Joke” (joke!) – 2021
With the dark renaissance costume and a joker vibe, Se So Neon made an out-of-the-box concept with their song “joke!” as they give slow burns with their lyrics of longing for forgiveness.
Karpos Live Presents: SE SO NEON will be happening on November 18 at the Filinvest Tent, Alabang and tickets are available via Tickelo. GA Regular is at PHP 4,120.00 inclusive of ticket service fees. You may also follow @karposlive for more updates.
