K-pop sensation UNIS excites Filipino fans with their return and upcoming fancon.
On October 24, 2024, South Korean girl group UNIS made a splash in Manila, Philippines, as they held a media convention at the Sheraton Manila Hotel. The event served as a prelude to their highly anticipated fan event, “UNIS in CURIOUS Land.”
This marked the group’s second visit to the Philippines, following their successful fan meeting in May 2024. Expressing their gratitude for the warm reception from Filipino fans, the members shared their excitement about returning to the country.
“We’re really thankful to the Everafters in the Philippines who have shown so much love and support ever since the beginning,” shared Elisia, one of the group’s members. The group reminisced about their previous visit and expressed their eagerness to create even more unforgettable memories with their Filipino fans. They also announced that a portion of their concert sales will be donated to typhoon victims.
“We made so many good memories, and it was such a meaningful experience. I have confidence in saying that we’ve improved so much since then. All I can say is just wait for our fancon,” said Gehlee.
Hyeonju, the eldest member of the group, revealed that the fancon would feature live performances of songs from their single album, “Curious.” “We also have special stages prepared. And these special stages, you’ll only be able to see these at the event itself,” added Elisia.
The group also shared their efforts to connect with Filipino fans on a deeper level, including learning the Tagalog language.
“The members often ask a lot about Tagalog to me and Ate Gehlee. And of course, as first-time teachers, we worked really hard to teach them. Thankfully, the other members are trying their best to understand us and they’re doing really well, I think,” Elisia explained.
Kotoko, another member of the group, acknowledged the challenges of preparing for the fancon, particularly in mastering new choreography. UNIS also expressed their aspirations to expand their fanbase and become recognized as a group that represents their generation.
One of the group’s goals is to collaborate with the popular Filipino girl group, BINI.
“We had the chance to do a cover of BINI’s ‘Pantropiko.’ Since then, I think it would be really interesting for BINI and UNIS, a K-pop girl group, to come together and work together and just make their own new concoction or new song,” Elisia shared.
To conclude the media convention, UNIS had individual photo time and eventually treated the media to performances of their hit songs and comeback tracks “Curious” and “Poppin.”
