Michael Learns to Rock, the iconic Danish pop-rock band consisting of Jascha Richter, Mikkel Lentz, and Kåre Wanscher, brought their timeless music once again during the ‘Take Me to Your Heart’ concert at the Mall of Asia Arena on November 5, 2024.
The concert celebrated their 30-year connection with the Philippines, and as expected, it did not disappoint, offering fans an unforgettable night of music, nostalgia, and shared memories.
From the moment the band took the stage, the crowd erupted in applause, signaling the start of a much-anticipated evening filled with chart-topping hits and fan favorites. Opening with their classic “Someday,” Michael Learns To Rock immediately set the tone for the night – energetic, emotional, and filled with the warmth that only live music can bring.
A NIGHT OF TIMELESS HITS
The night was a walk down memory lane as the band performed some of their most beloved songs, including “Sleeping Child”, “Complicated Heart,” “I Still Carry On,” “I’m Gonna Be Around,” “Out of the Blue,” and their latest single “A Life to Remember” was also included. Fans sang along word-for-word, proving that Michael Learns to Rock’s music has truly transcended generations. Each song was met with cheers, raising the energy in the arena and creating an atmosphere of unity between the band and their Filipino fans.
During the first ment, Jascha jokingly admitted that he was nervous because there were so many talented Filipino singers, so he decided not to play the piano for the next song and instead hold the microphone. When he performed “Nothing to Lose,” the fans were both surprised and delighted as he stepped off the stage to get literally closer to them. After returning to the stage, Michael Learns to Rock continued playing their timeless hits like “25 Minutes,” “The Actor,” and “Love Will Never Lie.”
MICHAEL ‘LEARNS’ TO ROCK
Jascha, the band’s lead vocalist and songwriter, shared that when he was young, he would go to the library to study. The first songs he learned by ear were Elton John’s. He then revealed that the first song he ever composed was “Breaking My Heart.” He also mentioned that it was the slowest song they had ever created. He added that when they were just 19 years old, they dreamed of forming a rock band. They then played “Wild Women,” sending the audience into a rock music frenzy.
CLASSIC LOVE SONGS
The atmosphere shifted when Michael Learns to Rock began performing their classic love songs, such as “You Took My Heart Away,” “Paint My Love,” and ” Take Me To Your Heart.” Fans turned on their flashlights and sang along with the band. The members praised the audience, expressing how the crowd had truly taken them to their hearts. They sincerely thanked everyone for attending and for their unwavering support since their first visit to the Philippines 30 years ago. They also introduced their touring bassist.
To cap off the nostalgic night, the band performed their final song, “That’s Why You Go Away,” which left everyone emotional. The concert venue turned into a karaoke session one last time. It was truly a night to remember for all who attended, as Michael Learns to Rock has been a part of the hearts and lives of every generation since the beginning of their musical journey.
